AVALON’S SEAFOOD FESTIVAL DRAWS RECORD CROWD
Avalon, NJ – The Avalon Chamber of Commerce is happy to announce a record number of attendees for its annual Seafood Festival, held over Columbus Day weekend on Oct. 10 and 11. More than 4,000 people joined the Chamber in enjoying the beautiful weekend weather, music, fresh seafood, shopping, children’s activities and more.
“It was definitely a banner weekend for the food and merchandise vendors that joined us,” said Chamber President John O’Dea. “The weather really helped bring out the crowd, plus the shopping and activities were great, the music was entertaining and, of course, the food was delicious.”
Throughout the weekend, music was provided by Sean Loosh, Ashley Curcio, Tom Curtis Jr., Don Shough and the Michael Thompson Duo. Two competitions were held: a Shucking Showdown and a Chowder Championship. The chefs competing in Saturday’s Shucking Showdown, a clam-shucking contest, included Warren Wade of Fuze Italian, Steve Lawson of the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor, George Faust of Cibo Grill and Rob Noble of the Golden Inn. Wade took home the trophy for the third year in a row.
Sunday’s Chowder Championship was won by Golden Inn Chef Rob Noble for the second straight year, with the Sea Grill coming in second and the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor third. The Princeton, the Circle Tavern and Jay’s Crab Shack also were well-represented.
Next year’s Seafood Festival is scheduled for October 8 and 9, 2016. A 2016 vendor application is available at www.visitavalonnj.com/special-events.
